TORONTO - There’s a good chance the Argonauts will be without one of the top special teams players in the Canadian Football League on Sunday.

And we’re not talking about Chad Owens.

Bryan Crawford, who led the league with 27 special teams tackles during the regular season, is “very questionable,” head coach Jim Barker said, for the East Division semifinal. Crawford is recovering from an adductor muscle injury that kept him out this past weekend in Montreal.

“He is such a dynamic special teams player, and we need him, but we can’t risk him,” Barker said. “We don’t want him to go into a game and then he goes down. That hurts us more.”

Another good performer on special teams, Jeff Johnson, is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Of those who missed the game against the Alouettes for more than just little nicks, one who is destined to return is defensive tackle Kevin Huntley, who has led the Argos in sacks in each of the past two seasons. Huntley missed the final three games with a shoulder injury. With Adriano Belli also good to go, the defensive line will be at its strongest.

“Those two guys are two of the best interior guys in the league,” Barker said. “It gives us a lot of flexibility of how we can move people around and get things done.”

More reps for Watt

Spencer Watt’s big game is going to pay off.

The Argonauts rookie receiver can expect to get more reps on Sunday in Hamilton in light of his terrific performance this past weekend in Montreal.

Watt became a focal point on offence as many starters were rested, catching six passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns, which led to CFL Canadian player of the week honours. Prior to burning the Alouettes secondary, Watt had made eight catches for 61 yards in 13 games.

“You earn your right on the field, and he has earned a right to be on the field more,” head coach Jim Barker said. “Right now he is a young guy with confidence. We’re going to spot-play him and play him in different areas, and I think he is a guy who gives (Hamilton) problems.”
