TORONTO - Chad Owens wasn't deemed good enough to play for the Montreal Alouettes when the season started.

Now he's poised to become just the fifth player in CFL history to collect 1,000 yards in punt and kickoff returns in the same season.

"I always believed in what I could do. I'm at a place now where I can showcase that," said Owens, who was traded to the Argos in June.

With two games remaining, Owens has 949 punt return yards. He's already got 1,093 yards on kickoff returns, four of which have gone for touchdowns.

Owens also has 45 catches for 562 yards but running back kicks gives him an adrenalin rush.

"I enjoy getting the ball and special teams guarantees I'm getting the ball. Everybody knows who's getting it; that's what makes it exciting for me. There's no trickery, there's no misdirection. It's a challenge for me ... get the crowd going, help our team and ultimately help us win."
