Rookie excuse getting old

The Argonauts might be fairly young at some positions and have been breaking in rookies at others.

But it's an excuse that is past its expiry date.

"As a young team, we have to start playing a little smarter and understand that in the playoff run, every little nick counts," 33-year-old slotback Jeremaine Copeland said. "You can't have too many turnovers and penalties, because you can't really overcome that. We are slowly getting there."

Copeland had a 23-yard reception called back against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday when Cedric Gagne-Marcoux was called for holding, wiping the play out and putting the Argos at second-and-20. One play later, Jamie Boreham punted.

Toronto was flagged only four times, but with the playoff race in full swing, each miscue, as Copeland pointed out, gets magnified. What has to be tough for the Boatmen to swallow is they consistently have been the league's most disciplined team in 2010.
