TORONTO - Dalton Bell vs. Cleo Lemon wasn’t the only quarterback talk going on at Argonauts camp Thursday.

There is talk of another quarterback potentially on his way to Toronto - but so far it is all just talk.

Matt Grothe, a 24-year-old who went undrafted by the NFL following four years as the starting QB for the University of South Florida, could be close to joining the Double Blue.

Grothe was the 2006 Big East Freshman of the Year and had solid campaigns in his sophomore and junior seasons before a torn ACL cut short his senior year.

Argos head coach Jim Barker acknowledged the team’s interest, but said any report of a signing is premature.

“We don’t have room on our roster to sign anybody right now, but our practice roster will expand next week (by five players) and Matt Grothe from South Florida is a guy with a lot of talent,” Barker said.

“He runs around well and our director of player personnel Mike Hagan has been down there talking to a lot of players. Players we think will eventually have a chance to be players up here will be brought up and looked at. He is one of those players we are looking at. He is on our negotiation list and we are negotiating, not necessarily to put him on the roster, but to bring him up.”
