Argos keeping an eye on Reinders
Offensive tackle waived by Browns

Joel Reinders has been waived by the Cleveland Browns, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he is bound for the Argonauts.

The Argos knew they were taking a risk when they chose the offensive tackle, an Oakville native, in the fourth round of the Canadian draft in May. After all, Reinders had just signed with the Browns as a free agent, only two years after taking up the sport of football at the University of Waterloo.

Now, Argos head coach Jim Barker would not be surprised if Reinders gets a spot on the Browns’ practice roster. That’s if another NFL team does not claim him on waivers.

“That’s what I am guessing, but there probably has not been a decision, yet,” Barker said of the possibility that Reinders nails down a practice roster spot. “We felt like that could happen (when the Argos drafted Reinders), but you just don’t know.”

The Argos also are keeping tabs on free agent defensive end Ricky Foley, who has been placed on waivers by the New York Jets. Foley, a native of Courtice, Ont., played out his option last season with the B.C. Lions and tied for the CFL lead with 12 quarterback sacks. It’s thought that Foley’s first choice might be to return to the Lions.

And the Argos might have a decision to make on defensive lineman Walter Curry, who was not expected to survive the Jacksonville Jaguars’ final cuts.

Can Ricky Ray solve the Toronto Argonauts' quarterback woes in 2012?
