Barker's 'football vacation' winds down

The Toronto Argonauts had their final two-a-day workout yesterday.

"I'm excited. I could go another two weeks. It's my favourite time of year," said head coach Jim Barker.

Barker just has to draw up the plays -- he doesn't need to get run over by a Adriano Belli, who is so big he could rent himself out in the off-season as an 18-wheeler.

"They're dead, and they should be," admitted Barker.

So why does he love this time of year so much?

"You get the players around you all day long. Once the season starts you don't have that and I'm (back as a coach) because I love being around the players. We start a 5:30 in the morning and often don't get out of here until 11 o'clock at night and to me there's nothing better. A lot of times I'm up until two or three in the morning ... and I like to sleep in my office.

"It's like a football vacation. For a coach it's like going to a two-week fantasy camp. It's just a fun time."
