Eddie Johnson did everything the Argonauts could ask for him, but heíll go down in team history as merely an afterthought.
Johnson, the strong-legged punter who won the kicking duties coming out of training camp last season, was released by the Argos Tuesday along with offensive lineman Gordon Sawler.
Johnson leaves having punted all of 15 times for the Argos, attempted and made exactly one field goal of 25 years and successfully completed all three point-after attempts he had. He also kicked off five times for the Argos.
In one of the more hard-luck stories of the season, Johnsonís hold on the starting kicking job didnít even last a game.
In the opener against Hamilton last season, Johnson separated his shoulder on the opening kickoff making a tackle.
He gutted it out the remainder of the game, but was put on the injury list after the game. Justin Medlock, who Johnson had won the job over in training camp, handled the kicking duties for the Argos for the majority of the remainder of the year.
Medlock has since moved on signing with the Washington Redskins.
Heading into camp this year, the Argos have former Ticats and Roughriders kicker Jamie Boreham in camp along with import placekicker Robbie Dehaze. Dehaze tried out with the Atlanta Falcons last season.
