TORONTO -- The Argonauts continue to look for a replacement for Jamal Robertson.

The Argos on Thursday signed running back/kick returner DeCori Birmingham, who spent the past two seasons on the Carolina Panthers' practice roster, through 2012.

"We were interested in DeCori because he is a versatile athlete," Argos coach Jim Barker said. "An excellent inside runner, DeCori also is comfortable as a receiver and he always has been an outstanding returner. We are excited to watch him compete at training camp."

Birmingham, 27, played four seasons at the University of Arkansas where he set a school record with more than 1,300 career kickoff return yards. In 49 games for the Razorbacks, he accumulated 1,151 rushing yards on 233 carries and was an 11-game starter as a senior.

Robertson, who gained more than 1,000 yards rushing last year with Toronto, signed with the B.C. Lions this week, after it became apparent the Argos' interests were elsewhere.

Amos Allen, Cory Boyd and Andre Durie also are expected to compete for the No. 1 job at running back when camp opens in June.
