The Argonauts have signed running back Cory Boyd.

The 24-year-old starred for South Carolina, becoming only the second player in school history to gain 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in a career.

The 6-foot-1, 218-pound Boyd, native of Orange, N.J., was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has spent time with the Denver Broncos, but did not play last season.

Jamal Robertson, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards with the Argos last season, remains an unrestricted free agent. Head coach Jim Barker has said he would like to have Robertson back in Double Blue, but only at an affordable rate.

"Cory Boyd is a back with size which is important in our game," Argos general manager Adam Rita said. "His great receiving skills coupled with his speed to go the distance make him an intriguing prospect we look forward to seeing on the field."
