The Argos have seen the last of running back Jarrett Payton.

The team has granted Payton his request to be released.

He told head coach Bart Andrus yesterday that he was packing his belongings.

“He’s a guy I think an awfully lot of," Andrus said of Payton. Andrus said he was surprised when Payton paid a visit to the head coach’s office.

“I know he’s got good reasons (for leaving)," Andrus said.

In 2005, Andrus and Payton won a World Bowl title in Europe and were reunited this year in Toronto.

Payton is the son of the legendary Walter Payton.

Durie kick-started

York product Andre Durie is the CFL’s special teams player of the week after he produced 189 kickoff yards, including an 82-yard return, in Hamilton.

“We’ve found ourselves a kick returner," Andrus said of Durie, who may one day return punts.

Rita fined $500.

The CFL announced yesterday that it has fined Argos GM Adam Rita $500 for his conduct with a member of the media following Monday’s game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
