Argos have holes to fill

Facing a must-win situation despite the fact the season remains young, the Argonauts will be shorthanded at the receiver spot Friday night in Winnipeg.

The Argos will be without veteran Andre Talbot and rookie Matt Lambros after both suffered injuries during a 44-9 loss in Calgary against the Stampeders this past Friday night.

Talbot has a sprained right ankle and Lambros was scheduled to have an MRI on his right knee Monday afternoon. The Argos also might be without another receiver, sophomore Tyler Scott, who suffered a mild concussion against Calgary but managed to make it through practice earlier Monday in Mississauga. Talbot said he could miss just one game, but Lambros probably will be out longer.

All three are non-imports, so Toronto native Mike Bradwell, who has 175 yards on just eight catches, can count on being a larger part of the offensive picture.

"We all want to be on the field," Bradwell said. "I am going to take this opportunity and run with it as long as I can."

The Argos also are looking at adding receivers Brad Smith and Chad Rempel.

The Argos and Blue Bombers have gone 1-2 through the first three weeks and will clash in a home-and-home that concludes Aug. 1 at the Rogers Centre. With the Hamilton Tiger-Cats off to a 2-1 start and showing signs they're ready to move up from basement status in the East Division, the next pair of games for the Argos are crucial.
