One way or another, it will hurt if Arland Bruce has to sit on the bench for the home opener against Saskatchewan on Saturday. The Argos' flamboyant wide receiver has a case of hemorrhoids that puts him in the questionable category for now.

"It's kind of odd that I wound up with this 50-year-old man's disease," Bruce said yesterday. "But all I can do is ice it and rest. I've had these before in college. It went well (yesterday), but I have two grape-sized hemorrhoids and I'm taking some anti-inflammatories and see how I feel (today)."

Said one-time hemorrhoid sufferer Kerry Joseph: "I feel his pain."

JUST FOR KICKS

Joseph was practising punts yesterday after the Argos were stuck without a kicker in the early moments of the Hamilton game following Eddie Johnson's shoulder injury.

"I haven't been doing it for awhile, but we had a situation pop up in our last game," Joseph said. "It's been a long time since I actually worked at it. but it's like a golf swing; the more times you do it, the more comfortable you get. Hopefully, we don't have to (use him for Justin Medlock)."

ONE FINAL TRIBUTE

Bruce, who was fined by the CFL for his touchdown tribute to Michael Jackson on Canada Day, made sure to watch Tuesday's star-studded salute to the King of Pop.

"It's still hard to believe he's not here anymore," said Bruce, who styled himself after Jackson as a younger man. "He was an amazing dude and it will never be done again.

"It brought everyone closer together. I relate to that. I have a large family myself and we had a reunion (in Kansas City) before our first pre-season game, more than 1,500 people."
