JUST FOR KICKS

Coach Bart Andrus picked Eddie Johnson over Justin Medlock as the import who would handle both punting and place-kicking duties last night. But the first convert attempt wound up going to running back Jarrett Payton after Johnson was shaken up on a tackle. Not only did Payton miss the extra point wide left, he had to kick off from the 15-yard line after two penalties for Arland Bruce's touchdown showboating were tacked on.

A CLOSE CALL

Argos QB Kerry Joseph left the game briefly in the second half when, on one of the few times the Tiger-Cats defence penetrated, Khari Long tripped him up in the backfield for a sack. Joseph went down grabbing his shin and limped to the bench in apparent pain, but was not hurt seriously.

HAPPY LANDINGS

Unlike a home opener from a couple of years ago, when some members of a precision parachute team were blown all over Hamilton, three flyers glided in on target last night and Ivor Wynne put on an impressive salute to the Canadian military following the playing of O Canada.
