Clemons cautions on Bruce's return

Arland Bruce III appears willing and able, but head coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons still is having reservations about starting the veteran slotback tomorrow.

Bruce took a helmet-to-leg hit earlier in the season and played through it, but the leg started barking again mid-way through last week.

He remained in Toronto while the team travelled to Calgary where the Argos had their lunch handed to them.

Bruce was back practising with the first team yesterday and showed no signs of any injury, but Clemons remains unconvinced.

"The challenge with a muscle is when you think you are okay, they always say take one more week," Clemons said. "He's not a guy we want to lose for another four to six weeks. So he's going to practise, but as far as tomorrow goes, I've got some reservations."

DOUBLE DUTY

Clemons was pulling a little extra duty the past couple of days helping out on special teams as coach Marcello Simmons tends to other matters.

Simmons and his girlfriend, Loan (pronounced Lo-Anne), welcomed a daughter yesterday. Qiran Simmons came in at a healthy 61/2 pounds.

A LITTLE PAYBACK

It's not always the biggest guys who pack the biggest hits. Just ask Adriano Belli.

The nose tackle took a shot from Stampeders quarterback Henry Burris on a Joffrey Reynolds run.

Belli, while admitting he took a little heat from teammates for the hit that sidelined him a few plays, said the payback was probably overdue.

"I think I've probably laid out enough quarterbacks that I probably deserved it," Belli said.
