Labour Day return for Ricky?

Injured running back Ricky Williams was a refreshing participant at Argos practice yesterday.

And if his road to recovery from a broken arm continues to go well, he may have a more active role sooner than expected.

Williams, who drove out the refreshment cart when the session wrapped up, likely will be out for at least two more games. But Argos coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons hinted yesterday that the running back could return in time for the annual Labour Day grudge match against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

"We think he's got a chance -- an outside chance -- for Labour Day," Clemons said. "That would be the earliest we think he could return. The earliest we think we think he could be practising is a week from now but that's probably too early."

Williams reportedly has been undergoing treatments in a hyperbaric chamber to speed up his recovery.

If and when Williams returns, he'll present a challenge for the Argonauts coaching staff.

With 168 rushing yards in victories over Hamilton and Montreal, John Avery has had his most productive stretch in more than two seasons, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

Avery has been vocal in his opinion that the two should share the running duties.
