TOP OFFENSIVE PLAYER
With all eyes on Argos tailback Ricky Williams, it was actually Winnipeg scatback Charles Roberts who shone. The dynamo cracked the century mark for the first time this season. Roberts gained a total of 133 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries as the Blue Bombers beat the Boatmen 16-9.
TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYER
Call it a tie. Bombers defensive tackle Ron Warner was given credit for four QB sacks and three tackles. Both he and fellow defensive tackle Doug Brown were a force inside all night long and were instrumental in stuffing vaunted NFL star Williams. Both where in the face of Argos quarterback Spergon Wynn constantly.
TOP SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER
Argos placekicker/punter Noel Prefontaine connected on field goals of 47, 52 and 24 yards, and his punts often handcuffed Winnipeg returner Gabriel Fulbright, who was too often out of position. Prefontaine finished with about a 46-yard average.
Smack of the Game
Brown laid a lick on Wynn in the first quarter, forcing him to fumble. But after further review, it was ruled incomplete. But still one heck of a hit.
With time running out for the Argos, Winnipeg safety Ron Ockimey sacked Wynn, leaving the Argos third and long. Toronto failed to convert on third down.
Winnipeg slotback Milt Stegall leapt to catch a perfectly-thrown zinger from quarterback Kevin Glenn for a 25-yard gain.
