Riall Johnson can take a punch.

The Argos rookie defensive lineman said yesterday that he missed the pre-season finale against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Friday because of a fight outside a downtown Toronto club last week that left him with a cut and bruise around his left eye.

Still looking like a boxer coming off a tough bout, Johnson said he'll be ready to go Saturday when the Argos open their regular season against the B.C. Lions at the Rogers Centre.

ATTACKED

"I don't know anybody outside of this program (in Toronto), so I don't know why anybody would do this," said Johnson, who was placed on the disabled list last week. "I just got attacked out of the blue. But it's fine. He didn't do a good job. If I had that chance (to be the attacker), (he) would be out for more than a week."

Argos coach Pinball Clemons said the ex-NFLer wanted to play against Hamilton.

"I don't expect there will be any challenges (for Johnson this week)," Clemons said. "He thought he could play last week but we wanted to be real safe and make sure we didn't put him in a position that might compromise his long-term health. He's now fine and he knows where he shouldn't be."
