Toronto Sun football writer Perry Lefko makes a position-by-position comparison of the Argos and Ticats on the eve of their Eastern semi-final tilt:

---

QUARTERBACK

Danny McManus has had a comeback season throwing for more than 5,000 yards while Damon Allen has struggled at times with a new offence, a serious injury and changes in personnel. -- Advantage Tiger-Cats

RUNNING BACKS

Hamilton's Troy Davis led the league in rushing yardage while Toronto's John Avery struggled with injuries and consistency, although his best two games came against Hamilton. -- Advantage Tiger-Cats

RECEIVERS

Toronto had only one receiver -- Robert Baker -- surpass the 1,000 mark in receiving yards, but the present group is the best it's been all season in terms of talent. Hamilton's receiving corps, featuring wideout D.J Flick and slotbacks Craig Yeast and Archie Amerson, posted better numbers -- Tie

OFFENSIVE LINE

Hamilton's corps is enhanced by McManus' quick release, which helps prevent sacks, but has also shown an ability to open holes for Davis. Toronto's line has had to rely on double tight ends to maximize the running game and has been decimated by personnel changes caused by injuries and ineffective play. -- Advantage Tiger-Cats

DEFENSIVE LINE

Tiger-Cats possess the top two ends in the league based on sacks and the strength of the interior, in particular Johnny Scott. Toronto's D-line plays well at times, but is not set up schematically to post sacks from its ends. Because the Tiger-Cats are hurting inside with Scott and Adriano Belli, they lose their edge. -- Tie

LINEBACKERS

Toronto's group is fast and active while Hamilton's is a work in progress. -- Advantage Argos

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Notwithstanding some busted coverage of late, the Argos secondary is one of the best in the league. Hamilton's secondary is young and gives up years of experience, which the Argos will undoubtedly attack early. -- Advantage Argos

KICKERS

Toronto's Noel Prefontaine has a decisive edge over Hamilton counterpart Jamie Boreham, who is struggling with consistency, particularly on field goals. -- Advantage Argos

SPECIAL TEAMS

Argos returners Bashir Levingston and Arland Bruce have a huge edge over Hamilton's Craig Yeast, who can be dangerous at times. The Argos coverage units are also stronger. -- Advantage Argos

PREDICTION: ARGOS BY FIVE
