REGINA - With confetti covering the turf, the lights still on in an empty Mosaic Stadium and wind whipping into their faces, Saskatchewan Roughriders GM Brendan Taman, equipment manager Gord Gilroy, assistant GM Jeremy O'Day and development co-ordinator Terry Baskier huddled around the Grey Cup.

A couple of hours earlier, last Nov. 24, the Roughriders had beaten the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 45-23 to earn the right to clutch the CFL's version of the holy grail.

“It was pretty cool,” says Taman. “We put a coin on the field, a Rider loonie when the playoffs began, and we had made a pact that when the Grey Cup was won, we were coming back to get that coin. You're so mentally drained, you take it in.”

It was an exciting moment for Taman who wanted so desperately — for himself, for his staff, the coaches, the players, and the fans — to win the Cup.

Flashback — 1989. Taman is working for the OTHER Rough Riders, the Ottawa ones.
