Mike Labinjo won’t be the only Canadian football player showcasing his skills this Super Sunday.

Jerilee Woodford will also display her, ahem, assets, albeit on a different playing field.

The Harbour Main, Newfoundland native is one of several models set to compete at the second annual Lingerie Bowl.

You may remember Woodford from last year's game, that is, unless you were mesmerized by Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction. Woodford had a bird's eye view of the action, not as a player, but as a sideline official.

"It was awesome actually," Woodford admits. "I just started modeling literally a couple of weeks before that. I had just established myself with an agent, and the casting for all the teams had been done months prior, so I didn't have the opportunity to audition for a team player. But I was on the sidelines last year and desperately wanted to be on the field. So this year I got it."

Woodford will play for the L.A. Temptation, who won the initial Lingerie championship against the N.Y. Euphoria.

There are a number of changes to this year’s event. The Dallas Desire and Chicago Bliss have been added to the competition, which will consist of football related challenges including agility testing, 3-on-2 football and a touchdown dance competition.

But before you dismiss this as a glorified pick up game, think again. Although there is the usual casting call (as is the norm in Hollywood), the women are tested on their football abilities. After an agility test to see how the models can run, catch and throw, there is a process of elimination to select the best players. There are also written tests to judge the women’s knowledge of the game.

The preparation doesn’t end after the teams have been selected.

"We have full football practice," Woodford explains. "We have playbooks, we have to memorize all the plays and of course all the positions. We have full contact practices. We tackle the tackle dummies. We run drills, we run the tires, we do everything. We do everything just like a regular football team would practice."

Woodford was an accomplished athlete before she entered the modeling world. She ran track for a number of years at the national level, representing Newfoundland at the 1993 and 1997 Canada Summer Games. A hamstring injury put her track career on hold, and she shifted her focus to her education. Woodford attended school at Memorial University of Newfoundland where she studied biology and biochemistry.

Woodford also managed an Aldo Shoes store while in school. Little did she know, but that job would lead her to a career in modeling. When the company expanded to the U.S., it needed experienced managers to help set up the operation south of the border. Woodford jumped at the opportunity, and made her way to California.

"To be honest modeling was pretty much the furthest thing from my mind," Woodford admits. "It was never a goal or an objective or an expectation of any kind, and you know typical true Hollywood story was when I got here it became an option for me and people were recommending that I do it. I just kind of took a swing at it, and it's been working out very well. So right now, every model has an expiry date, so I'm trying to take advantage because it's lucrative and it's fun. You travel, you meet a lot of new exciting people, so I'm trying to take advantage of that."

Woodford will once again showcase her athleticism this Sunday. But don't count on her treating this event as just a fashion show.

"It's absolutely about the football. I can have my picture taken any day of the week," Woodford says with a chuckle.

The competition should come natural to her, even though she is a few years removed from her track career.

"When it comes to athletics, I'm ridiculously competitive," explains Woodford. "I was a tomboy; I have three brothers, no sisters, so my house was survival of the fittest. That was the mentality growing up. So I kind of carried that through."

Canadians interested in seeing Woodford in action can watch the Lingerie Bowl on Viewer's Choice and Express Vu on Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST. Express Vu will also be re-airing the event later that evening and throughout the month of February. Photos of Woodford and the other models are on the official Website at www.lingeriebowl.com.

If you are still debating whether the Lingerie Bowl is worthy of a look, Woodford provides some final food for thought.

"What goes better with nachos and beer than hot girls in lingerie?"
