While the Ottawa RedBlacks got a crushing blow on Monday, they were taking initial steps to hopefully land an impact receiver. Yes, they're in the chase for Weston Dressler.

Backup quarterback Thomas DeMarco found out he will need surgery to his left knee for an ACL injury suffered late in the game in Sunday's 32-7 loss to the Calgary Stampeders. He will have the surgery next month and will be out up to nine months.

"It hurts a lot, it really does," said RedBlacks GM Marcel Desjardins. "Even though he wasn't playing, he was a leader and a great guy in the locker room. It really sucks for him. This is all new to him, he'd never been injured."

With this being a short week - the RedBlacks play in Montreal Friday night - Danny O'Brien will be the backup and Alex Carder will dress against the Alouettes.
