Anxious, but not nervous.

That’s how Kent Austin remembered his emotions as he embarked on his first start at quarterback in the Canadian Football League, in 1987 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Some 27 years later, Austin is curious to see how Dan LeFevour’s first CFL start under centre will unfold when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats entertain the Ottawa RedBlacks at McMaster University on Saturday night.

“I just trust his decision-making based on the last two games and feel like we need to give him an opportunity to see if he can command the offence from the beginning,” Austin, the Ticats’ head coach and general manager, said.

“It is like anybody else who has not played a lot. You really keep them focused on their execution throughout the game, prior to the game, leading into the game and not to try to do more than we ask. We don’t ask you to worry about the next play or the next quarter. We ask you to execute the current play.”
