Marwan Hage said it was mentally fatiguing.

One day thinking how cool it would be to suit up for the Ottawa RedBlacks, then the next day knowing how horrible it would be to be away from his wife Angela and two-month-old son Antoine.

He didn't want to move his family and he didn't want to miss things like a child's first steps and first words.

So on Monday, the 32-year-old Hage, an all-star centre who plugged away in the CFL's trenches for 10 seasons in Hamilton, called it quits.

It wasn't about fame and fortune. It wasn't about Ottawa. It was about family. And, it's not like he's desperate for the money anyway -- he owns two Tim Hortons franchises in downtown Toronto.
