OTTAWA - The Ottawa RedBlacks sent out several offers to significant CFL free agents on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, they hit paydirt — big-time.

The RedBlacks landed defensive back Jovon Johnson, a former winner of the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award (the first DB to win the award), and linebacker Malik Jackson.

Johnson, a two-time CFL all-star and three-time East Division all-star, agreed to a one-year deal with an option.

“It’s big for us, he brings so many elements to the table,” said RedBlacks GM Marcel Desjardins. “He’s a solid defensive back, a solid leader, he can return kickoffs and punts, he can play safety and he’s played SAM linebacker — so he brings versatility.”
