OTTAWA - The Ottawa RedBlacks will get an extra week to get themselves ready for the CFL season.

The Ottawa Sun has learned the RedBlacks will get a first-week bye in the CFL schedule, which will be released on Wednesday.

It is a provision the RedBlacks asked for to allow them a bit of additional time to prepare, given their status as an expansion team.

Ottawa's first-ever regular-season game will be on the road, in either Winnipeg or Edmonton in Week 2 of the season.

In a Sun exclusive early Monday afternoon, it was announced that Ottawa would play its first exhibition game, as the home team, in Saskatchewan -- against the Roughriders -- June 14. The following weekend, they will play another exhibition game in Montreal.
