OTTAWA - For the Ottawa RedBlacks, there are plenty of baby steps on the way toward putting together a football team.

They’ve got some football ops folks in place, they’ve drafted some redshirted college players from the U.S., and they have some names on a negotiation list.

The RedBlacks are hoping to find some talent at a couple of tryout camps in mid-October in the U.S. — Oct. 19 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, and Oct. 20 at Thunder Field in Orlando.

“The procedure of having a camp in the U.S. is a regular thing, but the timing of the year is different,” said RedBlacks GM Marcel Desjardins. “We wanted to have it early. We don’t know what kind of turnout we’ll get. If we got a hundred, we’d be real happy.”
