Iowa lineman becomes first Ottawa RedBlacks player

The Ottawa RedBlacks have their first football player.

And ... he's Nolan MacMillan, a 6-foot-6, 290-lb. offensive lineman who plays for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.

"First of all, I'd like to say it's an honour for me and our entire organization to represent the great football fans of the City of Ottawa, the Ottawa Valley and the Outaouais Region at the Draft," said Ottawa GM Marcel Desjardins. "We've received tremendous support and we're looking forward with great excitement to our opening kickoff at the New Lansdowne Park in 2014.

"Nolan showed us that he has a lot of promise and we're looking forward to seeing him at our camp next year."

The RedBlacks will join the CFL for the 2014 season.

Scouts say MacMillan, who didn't play at all in 2011 after an injury, has tremendous upside, so much so that he may be a mid- to late-round selection in next year's NFL draft.
