Renegades defensive back Da'Shann Austin will appear in an Ottawa court Friday to face an assault charge.

He will be in front of a judge for the third time since being charged by Ottawa police following an alleged domestic incident on Aug. 3.

He made prior court appearances on the same charge on Aug. 19 and Oct. 7.

Austin's lawyer, Stuart Konyer, said the player will plead not guilty.

Austin has played in 10 games with the Renegades this season, including one against Hamilton at Frank Clair Stadium in which he intercepted a pass on the same date of his most recent court appearance.

NOT YET IN COURT

"Da'Shann has legal counsel, and this is a matter that has not been dealt with in court," said Renegades director of media relations Arash Madani.

"We are willing to co-operate with all authorities, but no member of the front office or upper management has been contacted at all about this matter."

Austin received a concussion during a game at Frank Clair Stadium on July 16 against Calgary and missed five games before returning to action on Sept. 2 for a game in Montreal.

He joined the Renegades last June after being acquired in a trade with the B.C. Lions.

He began his CFL career in Calgary four years ago, winning a Grey Cup as a rookie with the Stampeders.
