Eugene Melnyk loves football. But not enough to add the Renegades to his sporting empire.

The Senators owner told the Sun yesterday that president Roy Mlakar and chief financial officer Erin Crowe studied the books of the Renegades recently, but decided buying the CFL team doesn't make sense.

"I love football, I'm a big football fan," said Melnyk. "I don't think, from my understanding, that it's just economically feasible.

"I know that Erin Crowe and Roy Mlakar studied the possibility and they just didn't feel that it made financial sense to get involved."
