It used to be that CFL draft eligible would simply show up for the league's "evaluation camp," as it was formerly known, and go through drills they probably hadn't practised much.

Times have sure changed north of the border, and proof of that will be on display this weekend in downtown Toronto when the league conducts its annual combine. This is the second year the event will have the same name as the one used by its NFL counterparts in testing its future stars.

The name is not the only part of the process that is in line with the most successful football league in the world, however. CFL prospects are now doing the same combine training and often getting the same kind of results.

"As you can tell by the numbers, it's quite clear that the athletes in Canada are getting better and their dedication to training is obviously there as well," player agent Darren Gill said Wednesday.
