CFL coaches will be able to throw the challenge flag on missed field goals and converts starting in the 2013 season.

The CFL's board of governors approved a rule change Wednesday that will allow coaches to ask for a video review of missed kicks.

"Video review has become a dependable asset to ensure we get the right call on the field,"CFL director of officiating Tom Higgins said. "And with the technology and number of cameras used in today's telecasts of our games, expanding video review to cover these potential scoring plays is a natural evolution."

The board also approved a rule change that coaches will now be allowed to use their two timeouts at any point in regulation time, as long as both are not used after the three-minute warning in the second half.
