TORONTO - Adriano Belli has a good idea that will keep terrorizing CFL quarterbacks in the 2011 season.
In the next few days, the free-agent defensive tackle will decide whether he does it in the colours of the Toronto Argonauts or those of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Belli met with Argos general manager/head coach Jim Barker on Monday and will discuss his football future with Ticats GM Bob O’Billovich this week.
“Both teams are telling me what I want to hear,” Belli said. “I told Jim I will know by the end of the week where I am going.”
Belli, a free agent, missed the majority of the 2010 Argos season with a foot injury, but has recovered. When healthy, the defensive tackle has few peers in the CFL, though age is getting to be a factor as Belli will turn 34 in August.
Still, a defection by Belli to the Ticats could help upset the defensive balance in the East Division. Belli, who has played 10 seasons in the CFL including 21/2 years with Hamilton, would be joining Ticats centre Marwan Hage, one of his closest friends.
