Water thicker than blood?

From Arland Bruce to Derick Armstrong and a pair of defensive backs from the same team pushing each other after a play, it seems team camaraderie is taking a hit this season.

Football is the ultimate team sport but there are too many examples this CFL season of veteran players crossing the line when it comes to being a good teammate.

Bruce is the most glaring example for calling out his head coach by saying Bart Andrus needed to worry about getting the quarterback straight instead of fining him.

Armstrong started it in Week 1 by refusing to go into the game, even when teammate Terrence Edwards was drilled hard in attempting to make a catch.

Friday night, Calgary Stampeders defensive backs Dwight Anderson and Davanzo Tate got into a shoving match after the B.C. Lions scored a touchdown.

It was the biggest on-field skirmish since Robert Baker punched Noel Prefontaine during an Argos victory in the 2005 season-opener.

Credit Andrus for making the tough decision to leave Bruce at home last week, while Stamps head coach John Hufnagel quickly diffused the skirmish in his secondary.

OPENING DRIVE

The 38-point defeat at the hands of the Stamps was the worst loss for the B.C. Lions during the Wally Buono era in Vancouver. The previous worst loss since Buono took over in 2003 was 21 points, which happened twice. Buono's worst loss as a coach was in 1990, when his Stamps were beat 70-18 by the Argos in what was Buono's first game as head coach ... Buono is off to a poor start to passing Don Matthews for most wins as a CFL head coach. He needs three more to tie Matthews with 227 ... The Stamps were dealt a blow with receiver Ken-Yon Rambo leaving with a knee injury following a tackle from behind by Lions linebacker Javy Glatt. Although the Stamps were crying foul afterwards about a horse-collar tackle, had it been flagged, there would only be a 15-yard penalty. Worse news is Rambo's condition, which could keep him out an extended period of time. "The way it's reacting right now, I would think some sort of surgery is going to be required," Stamps head coach John Hufnagel said about the injury. More will be known tomorrow with the results of an MRI taken yesterday.

ENDZONE TOSS

Congratulations to any Blue Bombers fans who sat through that entire loss to the Argos. Some ugly numbers from that debacle: 66 yards passing from three QBs; one first down in first 30 minutes; and 123 total yards offence. The Bombers, who have one pass of more than 20 yards all season, are turning to gunslinger Michael Bishop, but the entire offensive scheme seems flawed. Coach Mike Kelly is obviously taking most of the heat. "Obviously, Stevie Wonder could see that was a putrid offensive display," Kelly said about the loss ... If there were an award for comeback player of the year, Ticats receiver Dave Stala would be the early frontrunner. Stala had seven catches for 86 yards against his former team last Thursday and that one game was more production he had in all of 2007 and 2008 due to injuries.

EXTRA POINTS

The last time the Lions started 1-3 was in 2004 when they went to the Grey Cup ... Stamps RB Joffrey Reynolds hit a milestone in his impressive career. The durable Texan passed Hall-of-Famer Willie Burden for fourth place in rushing yards in Stampeders' history. Burden set his mark in 103 games, while Reynolds topped him in just 80 starts.
