Jonathan Huntington's team of the week

JONATHAN HUNTINGTON -- Edmonton Sun

JOSH RANEK - RB - HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Finally showing why the Ticats coveted him in the off-season, Ranek tore apart the Bombers for 164 yards on the ground. In total, he had a whopping 233 yards from scrimmage, nearly 66% of Hamilton's net offensive yards on the evening.

ROBERT EDWARDS - RB - MONTREAL ALOUETTES

If it weren't for Ranek's simply stunning performance, Edwards would be the offensive player of the week after he sliced Toronto's defence for 138 yards and two majors.

GEROY SIMON - SB - B.C. LIONS

Finally broke through against the Eskimos, which had limited him to just one 100-yard game in the last six tilts. He had 196 yards and two TDs - but nothing was more important than a back-breaking 92-yard romp to paydirt in the second quarter.

BRENT JOHNSON - DE - B.C. LIONS

A regular member of this space, but this time it's for his soft receiving hands. On a second-and-one fake in the second half Friday, Johnson caught a 16-yard TD pass to put the final nail in the Esks' coffin.

DAMON DUVAL - P/K - MONTREAL ALOUETTES

Had a 52-yard punting average and five field goals on six attempts against Toronto.

... PLAYERS FROM THE WEEK THAT WAS

BUCK PIERCE - QB - B.C. LIONS

The Lions didn't skip a beat with Pierce calling the shots after star Dave Dickenson suffered an ankle sprain in the second quarter Friday. The Esks couldn't stop the backup QB, as he went 11-14 for 182 yards and two TDs.

RAHIM ABDULLAH - DE - CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Crushes Riders quarterback Kerry Joseph just 70 seconds into Saturday's game, causing a fumble that the Stamps recover and turn into the first major of the game.

OTIS FLOYD - LB - B.C. LIONS

The Eskimos would love to have Floyd back on their roster. A member of the Green and Gold for a short period in 2000, the all-star linebacker had six tackles and two sacks against his old team Friday.

COBY RHINEHART - DB - CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Showing up when the Stamps needed a big effort from their defence, the CFL sophomore had a first-half interception and a sack of Kerry Joseph.

PAUL McCALLUM - P - B.C. LIONS

He repeatedly kept the Esks facing long fields in the first half with booming punts inside B.C. Place. He finished with a 44-yard average.
