Huntington's team of the week

JONATHAN HUNTINGTON -- Edmonton Sun

FRED PERRY - DE - SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

A brilliant performance Saturday night, sacking Henry Burris three times, including twice in the fourth quarter. He also cleanly levelled Smilin' Hank with a blindside hit just as he threw the ball.

TOM CANADA - DE - WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Two sacks and a pass knockdown - which is relatively remarkable considering Canada admitted he played poorly in three of the four quarters on Friday.

And Canada had a big excuse, as his mind had to be elsewhere, considering his girlfriend fell asleep at the wheel and crashed a truck into a tree after dropping him at the airport for a flight to Hamilton.

JOE SMITH - RB - B.C. LIONS

Proving why Wally Buono could cut Antonio Warren, Smith rumbled for three more touchdowns and had 102 combined yards from the line of scrimmage.

JAVIER GLATT - LB - B.C. LIONS

Not only did he have two interceptions, he also had a sack. Not too shabby for a Canadian with plenty of pressure on his shoulders in the middle of the B.C. linebacking core.

BRENT JOHNSON - DE - B.C. LIONS

Two more sacks make it seven on the year, which is equal to the entire Edmonton team total for the year.

... PLAYERS FROM THE WEEK THAT WAS

ROBERT EDWARDS - RB - MONTREAL ALOUETTES

Almost 100 yards on the ground - 99 to be precise - and two more touchdowns. Both majors on Friday against the Eskimos came in the fourth quarter, when the Als needed to come from behind to win. In total, Edwards has eight TDs already this year.

MILT STEGALL - SB - WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

The ageless wonder had 11 catches for 162 yards on Friday. The rest of the Bomber squad had seven catches for 73 yards combined. And Stegall didn't play the whole game.

JOFFREY REYNOLDS - RB - CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Henry Burris is really struggling, but Reynolds is still rolling. Another 102 rushing yards on Saturday, but more impressive is the fact he had nearly an eight-yard average per carry. Best back in the league this season. Period.

MIKE MAURER - FB - EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Mr. Versatility for the Eskimos on Friday caught the ball out of the backfield to score Edmonton's only major, became the team's starting long-snapper on punts and led the club in special teams tackles.

GEROY SIMON - SB - B.C. LIONS

The speedster had six catches for 162 yards on Saturday.
