CBC-CFL controversy continues

Stay tuned, there's about to be more changes in the CBC and its telecasts of Canadian Football League games.

TSN, which already had taken the Labour Day game in Hamilton between the Argos and Tiger-Cats scheduled for the CBC, will show the rematch a week today in Toronto.

But CBC won't be in the dark after losing that game. It is scheduled to televise the game later that day between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The game had not been on the CFL's broadcast schedule.

Due to the lockout, the CBC does not have the manpower to do back-to-back games, hence the change for Monday's game which had been scheduled to follow the broadcast of the Edmonton Eskimos-Calgary Stampeders game.

CBC is scheduled to do a Thanksgiving doubleheader that also will have to be changed unless the lockout is resolved.

O'SHEA IN DOUBT

Argos middle linebacker Mike O'Shea has played in every Labour Day game since joining the league in 1993, but that streak is in jeopardy. O'Shea has a wonky shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for this year's game. A decision will be made today.

O'Shea declined interviews yesterday.

"He expects he is going to play, (but) we need to make sure everything is copacetic before we put him on to the field," Argos head coach Pinball Clemons said. "He needs to understand Mike O'Shea is more important than this football game. He's a selfless person. If we had 40 of them, no game we played would ever be in question. He's just a phenomenal athlete and his heart is bigger than this (practice) facility."

PRAYING FOR PAYTON

Several CFL teams are hoping for the best for former star defensive player Elfrid Payton, who lives in New Orleans with his wife and family. He has been out of contact since the hurricane.

Several former teammates, including Edmonton's Derrell Mitchell and Winnipeg's Milt Stegall, have tried calling Payton without success because of the hurricane impacting telephone service.

"You don't want to speculate -- just stay positive and think of the best," Clemons said.

ARGO BITS

Receiver R. Jay Soward, who has missed three games with a rotator cuff injury, passed a strength test yesterday but won't be in the lineup on Monday ... The Argos have signed offensive lineman Danny Frame, who played with the team in 2003 and part of 2004.
