The Montreal Alouettes didn’t hire their head coach, Tom Higgins, until after free agency began this year.

Now they can’t stop hiring coaches and consultants, all in an effort to get out of their free fall following the Anthony Calvillo era.

A few days after bringing Don Matthews back to the league to be a “consultant,” the Alouettes on Monday hired former CFL star quarterback Jeff Garcia to be an offensive coach. He might be their best bet if he puts on some shoulder pads and a helmet.

Things are not good in La Belle Province right now. For years the Alouettes were the class of the league thanks in large part to Calvillo, but now it looks like the CFL’s version of the Gong Show. Players don’t know who is in charge, and they’ve failed to hit double digits in point production two games in a row.
