VERO BEACH, FLA. - You just get the feeling being around Alouettes mini-camp this week that Chad Johnson will get his shot at main camp in June.
Montreal general manager Jim Popp on Tuesday night described Johnson’s presence at mini-camp as the “first step,” and on Wednesday afternoon head coach Tom Higgins said the former NFL star receiver is continuing to move ahead in the process.
“He’s definitely taken the second step,” Higgins said after Wednesday’s two workouts in cloudy and relatively cool conditions. “It’s not about money. It’s about the opportunity to get back on the field and compete. It seems like he’s bonding well. He knows quite a few players.
“He’s fitting in and he’s competing. So far, so good.”
