Nearly seven years have passed since Troy Smith walked off the field after his Ohio State Buckeyes were crushed in the 2007 BCS championship.

And though the Montreal Alouettes quarterback has no interest in living in the past, you can bet he will draw on that experience on Sunday afternoon against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Division semifinal.

"The games I have played in the past have helped build character," Smith said at the Alouettes' hotel on Saturday.

"But now is what is most important, and I treat it that way. (My teammates) help me to ease some of the anxiety level, but to go out there and throw the ball, it is all on me and I have to be ready."

Whether it's fair to every other player grinding it out between the whistles doesn't matter -- the outcome of the playoff game at the University of Guelph's Alumni Stadium will ride on the shoulders of the starting quarterbacks.
