Als sign Citadel's Clanton

Defensive end Erik Clanton, an All-Southern Conference standout at The Citadel last season, has signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

Clanton was second in the SoCon in 2010 with nine sacks and third with 14 tackles for loss. He finished with 62 tackles, one quarterback hurry, one fumble recovery and three forced fumbles.

"Erik had a great senior year. He was an excellent leader with a strong work ethic," The Citadel head coach Kevin Higgins said. "Coming back for his fifth year really improved his skill set. His speed, quickness and athleticism are ideal for the Canadian League. Montreal will love his motor."

"Playing in Montreal is going to be a great culture shock, but I'm looking forward to being apart of something that is not only football, but a different way of life," Clanton said. "Plus learning a little French won't be so bad."
