MONTREAL – Montreal police have released a photo of a suspect in the attempted murder of Montreal Alouettes linebacker Walter Spencer and there's a suggestion that the motive might have been robbery.

The 31-year-old Detroit native was stabbed in the chest and head last month as he was leaving a downtown bar. He had been swarmed by several men at around 3 a.m. Two men then fled the scene in a gold Chevrolet Impala. One of them had made off with a gold medallion and mounted on a 36-inch chain. Spencer's initials were inscribed on the medallion in diamonds.

Spencer spent 18 days in hospital, including five days in intensive care. The Alouettes placed him on the disabled list and is now resting at home.
