Henry Burris didn’t pinpoint the exact day it was clear to him last season.

The veteran quarterback just knew. He didn’t have a permanent spot in Kent Austin’s good books.

Now under centre for the Ottawa RedBlacks, the 39-year-old Burris is the face of a franchise that is trying, for once and for all, to secure the nation’s capital as a vital part of the Canadian Football League. Burris comes by his nickname Smilin’ Hank honestly and there aren’t many players who would embrace the role of expansion-club ambassador as much as Burris has in Ottawa.

But he can’t yet separate himself from 2013 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, when he helped the Ticats get to the Grey Cup for the first time since 1999.
