It’s being billed as a Grey Cup rematch, a backdrop for Hamilton to earn some vindication, an opportunity for the hometown Riders to carry the momentum of a championship into a new season.

But when you strip the hype, the nostalgic layer whenever Kent Austin returns to the heart of Riderville, and all of football’s Xs and Os, Sunday’s kickoff is as much about Zach Collaros as any player, storyline or subplot.

In three-down football, the player who lines up centre automatically becomes the centre of attention.

In the CFL, the spotlight isn’t any bigger than a game in Regina, the very pulse of the league.

Granted, it is a long season and a lot awaits, but Collaros has the opportunity to immediately put his stamp on the Ticats.

Collaros has been waiting for this minute and that moment has finally arrived, no longer the backup, no longer wondering when he’ll get first-team reps.
