Kent Austin hates to lose as much as anyone in the CFL.

So it was almost surprising watching the video of him address the media following his teams’ 43-21 pre-season loss to arch-rival Argos at Varsity Stadium

There was still that edge to him — that’s pretty much permanent with Austin when dealing with the media — but underneath that edge there was almost a smile, or at least a feeling of accomplishment.

Obviously it was a pre-season game so the result didn’t matter. But you got the impression that the score could have been twice as lopsided and Austin still would have walked away with a semblance of satisfaction — and it all went back to the man he put under centre for the first half and will go with the rest of the season health permitting.

Austin made the decision in the off-season to cut ties with Henry Burris, the guy who got him to the Grey Cup, and go with a rising star in the league in former Argos backup Zach Collaros.
