Eskimos' trade with Tiger-Cats moves team up in draft picture

The Edmonton Eskimos continue to play musical chairs in the 2013 CFL draft.
In a trade announced Wednesday morning, the Eskimos improved their standing in the May 6 selection order by acquiring a second- and third-round pick (10th and 24th overall) of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in exchange for the playing rights to non-import defensive lineman Hasan Hazime, along with their own second-round pick (15th overall).
It comes on the heels of the Mike Reilly trade with the B.C. Lions, in which the two teams swapped second-round picks this year, moving Edmonton down from 11th overall to that 15th spot.
That makes the new 10th overall selection Edmonton’s initial choice in the draft, opening the second round now that the re-expansion Ottawa franchise joins the fray with the ninth pick in each round.
“One of our off-season priorities is re-establishing ourselves in the 2013 draft,” Eskimos general manager Ed Hervey said.
