The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have swooped in and grabbed linebacker Marcellus Bowman from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Bowman underwent significant knee surgery last week and won’t likely be ready for training camp, but that didn’t stop the Ticats from inking him to a deal on Sunday.

“Marcellus is an extremely talented player and a game-changer on defence,” Ticats GM and head coach Kent Austin said in a press release. “We’re well aware that he recently underwent a medical procedure but feel comfortable making this signing after consulting with our doctors.

“Our medical staff will work closely with Marcellus to ensure he returns to the field at 100% as soon as possible. We’re very excited to have Marcellus on board.”

The Bombers learned of Bowman’s knee injury last week, just before he had the surgery on Feb. 7, and Winnipeg GM Joe Mack said he would be willing to give Bowman a contract as he rehabilitated his injury.
