The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have fired head coach Marcel Bellefeuille, despite having guided the team to this year's Eastern Conference final.

"We would like to thank Coach Bellefeuille for his efforts during his time with our organization," general manager Bob O'Billovich said in a press release. " He represented the Tiger-Cats with pride and passion, and has left the organization in a much better place than when he started with us.

"However, we feel this move is necessary in order to reach our ultimate goal of winning a Grey Cup."

The Ticats finished third in the East this season, with an unflattering 8-10 record, but managed to upset the defending Cup champion Montreal Alouettes in the conference semifinal.

Bellefeuille served as head coach of the Ticats since Sept. 8, 2008 after originally joining the team as offensive coordinator in December of 2007.
