HAMILTON Here in the Hammer, Marcus Thigpen is developing a reputation for delivering the proverbial nail in the coffin of an unwitting foe.

When momentum needs to be swung in favour of the Ticats, Thigpens return ability on special teams has forced opponents to avoid punting the pigskin his way.

He can line up as a receiver, complement incumbent DeAndra Cobb in the backfield and last week Thigpen became the first player in the long history of the CFL to produce a touchdown in five ways.

A running back who ran track at Detroits Mumford High School, a program that produced NFL receiver Derrick Mason, Thigpen lined up at wideout when he enrolled at the University of Indiana.

Hes returned kickoffs, but it wasnt until his arrival in The Hammer this season that Thigpen began to field punts.

The rest, as they say, is history, as Thigpens improbable assault on history began to be written.

Thigpen is so versatile that the Ticats are beginning to find new ways to incorporate him as the weeks unfold.

We had an idea but not totally on the things he can do, head coach Marcel Bellefeuille said. Some of these things were just finding out as we practise. As he learns more about the offence, well do more to put him in different positions.

Bellefeuille didnt know Thigpens rushing major in Winnipeg established a record that wont be easily eclipsed, capping a string of touchdowns that has seen Thigpen hit paydirt on a reception, punt return, kickoff return and a missed field goal.

He quipped about the possibility of adding a sixth major, which can only be achieved by lining up Thigpen on defence.

If they want me to throw for a touchdown, Ill do it, said Thigpen. Whatever they need me to do for us to win, Ill try to do it.
