Ticats kicker ready

He may be a rookie in the Canadian Football League, but Jamie Boreham is no stranger to playoff games.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats dual-purpose kicker, who is expected to factor prominently against the Argos Friday in the East Division semi-final at the SkyDome, routinely participated in post-season contests for the University of Manitoba. One of those games took place at the SkyDome when the Bisons played in the 2001 Vanier Cup, losing to the Saint Mary's Huskies.

"I went three-for-three in that game, but it's just kickin,'" Boreham said nonchalantly earlier this week. "I've kicked in lots of pressure games and situations. It's just kicking the ball straight, kicking it right and everything working -- the snap and the hold -- and good things happen."

There will be extra pressure to be precise on his kickoffs and punts because the Argos have dangerous returners in Bashir Levingston and Arland Bruce.

"I'll do whatever is asked of me," Boreham said. "If they want me to place it out of bounds, we'll do that. If they want me to kick a spot, we'll do that or whatever the coaches decide is the best scenario for the team.

RUMOUR DU JOUR

Bob O'Billovich, the player personnel director of the B.C. Lions, has been mentioned as a possible GM/head coach possibility for the Ottawa Renegades, who have yet to announce plans to re-hire GM Eric Tillman and head coach Joe Paopao. A decision is not expected to be formally announced on the football operations until the team's ownership uncertainty is resolved, likely in early December.

O'Billovich played for the Ottawa Rough Riders and served as an assistant coach with the organization before beginning the first of three stints with the Argos in 1982.

THE MASKED MAN

Bruce arrived at the Argos' practice facility yesterday wearing a surgical mask because he is suffering from the flu and did not want to spread it. He missed practice the day before.

He is expected to be healthy enough to play. He missed the regular-season finale with a toe problem.
