REGINA - It was, from start to finish, the perfect payoff for Canada’s greatest football fans for enduring 101 years of solid suffering interrupted by scattered reign.

From the moment the Saskatchewan Roughriders landed at the airport here Sunday night after winning the Western Final in Calgary until they were presented with the big silver trophy after a convincing 45-23 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, it was everything the 101st Grey Cup slogan suggested it should be:

“Celebration of Rider Nation.”

When Grey Cup MVP Kory Sheets scored following a big play by Grey Cup top Canadian Chris Getzlaf to mostly seal the deal before making it 31-6 at halftime, the week-long party turned into an unprecedented Grey Cup love-in at Mosaic Stadium.

“Green is the colour and football is our game,” the 44,710 fans sang in unison.
